When one thinks of the French Rivera, the posh Saint-Tropez filled with the super-rich and the most glamorous people, or even nearby Cannes and its famous film festival. There is another city further up the coast towards Monaco and Italy, and home to the region’s busy international airport, Nice Côte d’Azur.
Nice is small city of nearly 350,000 that hugs the Mediterranean and spreads up into the hills on both sides of the Var River. (Cannes is only 75,000 and Saint-Tropez a mere 3,000). The pebble beach and long promenade stretch along the shore from the airport to Old Nice, featuring a variety of beaches, with one clothing optional.
